VDV 452 (Public Transport Data Model)
VDV-Schrift 452 defines the German public-transport data model (ÖPNV-Datenmodell) used as a consistent semantic basis for databases and interfaces across public transport IT systems.
Technical Details
The standard is often compared to the European reference model Transmodel (EN 12896): Transmodel is a conceptual model focused on semantic description and does not prescribe implementer details like data types, units, or performance optimizations. VDV 452 provides implementation-near realizations of these conceptual entities and includes comparison/mapping tables between German/English terminology and Transmodel entities.
Fleet Applications
Helps transport operators and suppliers reduce custom mappings by aligning core objects and semantics across planning, operations, depot systems, and passenger information—improving interoperability in multi-vendor environments.
